Land Rover has a dual personality. On one hand, you have vehicles such as the Range Rover and Defender that rely heavily on their storied history. On the other, you have the Evoque, which is a more modern interpretation of the brand and caters to people looking to get into their first luxury SUV. The 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Velar sits in the middle of that lineup, adopting the Evoque’s sleek style and combining it with more space, power and capability.
BMW M4
Sport, ConvertibleThe BMW M4 Convertible is a high-performance drop-top designed to set your hair on fire with its powerful straight-six engine, then extinguish it by allowing the wind access to your now flaming noggin.
It goes head-to-head with a select few go-faster convertibles, with the Porsche 911 Cabriolet just about the closest thing to a direct alternative. Perhaps also consider the Jaguar F-Type Convertible, Lexus LC Convertible and Bentley Continental GTC. The thing all these cars have in common, though, is that they’re pricier than the BMW.
True enthusiasts will tell you the coupe is the one to go for, because removing the roof compromises body rigidity so the car handles 0.35% worse. (We may have made up that number for comic effect.) So the M4 Convertible is a little bit like putting ketchup on your Wagyu Beef. Purists will tell you you’re wrong, but often it’s more fun to go against the grain.
